Region: Middle East / South Asia
Primary Scripture Watch: Ezekiel 38–39; Daniel 7–12
ELIORA ASSESSMENT: WATCH — developing regional structure, not prophetic identification.
A New Alliance Worth Watching
On August 7, 2026, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The agreement establishes a significant collective-defense commitment:
An armed attack against any one of the three nations is to be regarded as an attack against all three.
The three governments describe the agreement as defensive and intended to strengthen collective deterrence, security, and broader defense cooperation.
The arrangement brings together three nations with very different forms of influence: Saudi Arabia's religious, economic, and regional importance; Türkiye's substantial military and defense-industrial capability; and Pakistan's large military and nuclear capability.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has also publicly stated that the agreement is not directed against a particular country and is open to participation by other friendly nations.
That makes this more than an agreement to file away and forget.
It makes it something to watch.
Iran Enters the Conversation
On August 23, reports emerged claiming that Iran had been invited to join the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement and was considering the proposal.
That immediately attracted attention from those who study biblical prophecy because ancient Persia, named explicitly in Ezekiel 38, corresponds substantially with modern Iran.
But the story changed quickly.
On August 24, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Iran had not received a formal invitation to join the agreement.
He did, however, acknowledge that proposals concerning discussions on regional collective security had been made.
Therefore, the Eliora Prophecy Watch does not record Iranian membership—or even a formal invitation to Iran—as established fact.
Current assessment: Iran's formal invitation and participation remain unconfirmed.
The contradiction between the original report and the Iranian Foreign Ministry's statement is preserved here intentionally. Prophecy Watch documents how events develop rather than quietly replacing earlier information when the story changes.
Why This Matters to a Prophecy Watch
Ezekiel describes a future coalition involving Gog and numerous peoples:
“Persia, Cush, and Put will accompany them, all with shields and helmets, as well as Gomer with all its troops, and Beth-togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.”
— Ezekiel 38:5–6, BSB
The most immediately recognizable geographical connection is Persia.
Persia's historical relationship with modern Iran makes Iranian involvement in any developing regional military structure worthy of observation.
Several other names appearing in Ezekiel's account have commonly been associated with territories in or around ancient Anatolia, bringing modern Türkiye into discussions of the passage as well.
But geographical correspondence alone does not establish prophetic fulfillment.
Ancient peoples do not always correspond neatly with modern national borders. Some geographical identifications remain disputed, and Ezekiel contains other details that must also be considered before drawing conclusions.
The Arabian Question
Ezekiel 38 contains another detail that makes the developing alliance particularly interesting.
When Gog advances, Ezekiel records:
“Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will ask, ‘Have you come to capture the plunder? Have you assembled your hordes to carry away loot, to make off with silver and gold, to take cattle and goods, to seize great spoil?’”
— Ezekiel 38:13, BSB
Sheba and Dedan are historically associated with the Arabian Peninsula.
They appear in the passage questioning Gog's advance rather than being plainly identified among Gog's invading forces.
That makes Saudi Arabia's eventual geopolitical position particularly important to watch.
If a modern alliance develops in a way that contradicts a proposed interpretation of Ezekiel 38, that evidence matters just as much as a development that appears to support it.
We are not trying to make the pieces fit.
We are watching to see whether they do.
What We Are NOT Saying
The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement is not being identified here as the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38.
Nor are we identifying this agreement with Daniel's end-times covenant, the Antichrist, the beginning of the Tribulation, or a timetable for the return of Jesus Christ.
The available evidence does not justify those conclusions.
Prophecy should never require us to force today's headline into yesterday's Scripture.
Instead, we document what actually happens and allow Scripture and subsequent evidence to test the hypothesis.
What We Are Watching
This Prophecy Watch remains open.
Developments that could materially change its assessment include:
- Iran formally receiving an invitation or joining the agreement.
- Additional nations becoming members.
- Development of permanent political or military command structures.
- Expansion of joint military exercises or coordinated forces.
- Changes in the alliance's relationship with Israel.
- Changes in Saudi Arabia's regional alignment.
- Emergence of a broader coalition whose geography warrants comparison with Ezekiel 38.
- Evidence that weakens rather than strengthens the proposed biblical connection.
A good investigation must be willing to discard a hypothesis when the evidence does not support it.
Watch Log
August 7, 2026 — Agreement Signed
Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
The official joint statement establishes collective deterrence and states that an armed attack against one member will be regarded as an attack against all three.
Evidence Status: Confirmed.
August 23, 2026 — Iran Reportedly Invited
Reports emerged claiming Iran had been invited to join the agreement and that Iranian leadership was considering the proposal.
No confirmation from the Iranian Foreign Ministry accompanied the initial report.
Evidence Status: Reported / Unconfirmed.
August 24, 2026 — Iran Denies Formal Invitation
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Iran had not received a formal invitation to join the agreement.
Iran did acknowledge that proposals concerning discussions on collective regional security had been presented.
The August 23 claim of a formal invitation therefore remains unconfirmed.
Evidence Status: Official Iranian denial of formal invitation / Regional-security discussions acknowledged.
Eliora Assessment
Geopolitical Significance: High
Possible Prophetic Connection: Worth Watching
Prophetic Identification: Unestablished
Evidence Status: Developing
Watch Status: Active
The formation of a collective-defense structure linking Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan is geopolitically significant regardless of its eventual relationship—or lack of relationship—to biblical prophecy.
Iranian participation would make the arrangement considerably more interesting when examining the geography of Ezekiel 38.
But Iran has not joined, and as of August 24 its Foreign Ministry says it has not received a formal invitation.
For now, this remains exactly what its category says:
A Prophecy Watch.
We will watch what happens next.

September 16, 2026 Update
The Makkah Defence Alliance has taken another step worth documenting.
Pakistan’s military spokesman, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated that the alliance between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye is intended for collective deterrence and defense and could eventually expand to include additional willing partners. He emphasized that the pact is not intended as an offensive alliance or as an exclusively Muslim military bloc. Decisions about expansion, he said, would remain with the political and military leadership of the three founding countries.
This is significant because Pakistan’s Foreign Office had said only days earlier that expansion was not currently “on the cards” while the three countries focused on consolidating the new organization. The latest statement does not mean another nation has joined. It does, however, confirm publicly that the alliance remains structurally open to future enlargement.
The alliance has also moved beyond a simple mutual-defense declaration. The three countries have agreed to establish a secretariat in Saudi Arabia—described by Arab News Pakistan as permanent—initially headed by a Pakistani secretary-general, and to deepen cooperation through joint military activities, defense production, technology development, and broader military coordination.
At the same time, events in the region are beginning to test what the pact means in practice. On September 16, Saudi Arabia reported intercepting a Houthi drone south of Mecca before it entered restricted airspace. Saudi officials described the protection of Mecca as a “red line.” The Houthis denied intentionally targeting the holy city, although they acknowledged responsibility for other recent attacks on Saudi territory.
No public announcement has been made that Pakistan or Türkiye has activated the alliance’s collective-defense provisions in response to these attacks. That distinction remains important.
Eliora Assessment
WATCH — developing regional structure, not prophetic identification.
What can responsibly be said is that a formal trilateral defense structure now exists among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, that it is becoming increasingly institutionalized, and that its leadership has left open the possibility of future expansion.
What cannot responsibly be said is that this alliance has been identified in Scripture, that it presently fulfills Daniel 11, Ezekiel 38–39, or another specific prophetic coalition, or that its future membership can be predicted from current events.
The development is therefore significant as a regional structural change worth continued observation, especially if additional nations formally join or if the alliance develops a defined policy or military posture concerning Israel.

Source Standard
Prophecy Watch preserves reporting as events develop.
The inclusion of a news report does not mean that every claim contained within it has been independently confirmed. Official government statements, primary documents, and multiple independent sources are given greater evidentiary weight than single-source reports.
When later evidence confirms, contradicts, or clarifies earlier reporting, the change will be documented rather than the earlier record silently rewritten.
The Eliora Prophecy Watch Standard
Scripture first. Evidence second. Hypothesis third. Conclusion last.
Prophecy Watch documents developing world events that may warrant comparison with biblical prophecy.
An event's inclusion in Prophecy Watch does not mean Eliora Selwyn considers it a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.
We do not set dates.
We do not manufacture fulfillment.
We do not make Scripture conform to current events.
We watch. We investigate. We test the evidence against Scripture.

Investigation Continues
COMING NEXT
Mecca Pact Watch — Part II
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement has entered a new stage.
Since this investigation was opened, the three founding countries have moved toward establishing political and military institutions, including the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, a secretariat and affiliated military headquarters. Türkiye has also publicly offered military assistance to Saudi Arabia under the agreement as attacks against the Kingdom continue.
These developments are substantial enough to warrant a separate expansion of this investigation rather than another routine Watch Log entry.
Mecca Pact Watch, Part II is now under investigation.
It will examine what has actually changed, what remains only proposed or developing, and whether this new stage materially changes the questions raised in this investigation.
Current Assessment: WATCH — emerging operational alliance, not prophetic identification.
When Mecca Pact Watch, Part II is published, the permanent continuation of this investigation will be linked here.
Follow-up investigation: From Pact to Structure: The Mecca Alliance Begins to Take Shape.
Editor’s note
Correction — October 24, 2026 (site migration): The quotation of Ezekiel 38:13 was corrected to match the Berean Standard Bible. The “Last Updated” date was changed from August 24 to September 16, 2026, the date of the existing dated Update; October 24, 2026 is the date of these migration corrections. The September 16 Update now attributes the description of the secretariat as permanent to press reporting (Arab News Pakistan), because the official statements do not use that word. In the ‘Investigation Continues’ section, ‘permanent’ was removed, the Strategic Political and Defence Committee is now named, and a link to the follow-up investigation was added. The original cover image was replaced with an AI-generated editorial illustration. Apart from these changes, the original record and its dated Watch Logs are unchanged, and no later developments were added.
